Subgenus Passiflora

Passiflora choconiana 4" pot


Purplish pink flowers with long, dark filaments. Excellent food plant for a large variety of Longwing (Heleconius) butterflies. Tolerates heat. Tri-lobed leaves on a moderate vine. Easy grower. Larval food plant for the butterflies Dione juno, Eueides aliphera, Eueides procula and Heliconus hecale.

Subgenus: Passiflora, Supersection: Stipulata, Section: Granadillastrum.  Formerly known as Passiflora pseudo-oerstedii.

 

Light: Full sun, part shade.  There will be less flowers in part shade.

Water: Moderate.

Soil: A wide range of soil, but it must be well-drained.

Fertilizer: A slow-release, bloom-booster type fertilizer is appreciated, but beware of using a fertilizer with too much nitrogen as it may push leaves at the expense of flowers.

 

Hardiness: Zone 12.
