Subgenus Passiflora

Passiflora elegans 4" pot

White and blue flowers are followed by an abundance of ping-pong ball sized fruits.  The fruits ripen to orange and are very sweet and aromatic.  I love picking them in the greenhouse while I'm watering and feasting on the goo inside!  Doesn't need a separate plant to produce fruit.  Closely related to Passiflora actinia, but seems to be a lot more heat tolerant.

Subgenus: Passiflora, Supersection: Stipulata, Section: Granadillastrum.

Light: Full sun, part shade.  There will be less flowers in part shade.

Water: Moderate.

Soil: A wide range of soil, but it must be well-drained.

Fertilizer: A slow-release, bloom-booster type fertilizer is appreciated, but beware of using a fertilizer with too much nitrogen as it may push leaves at the expense of flowers.

Hardiness: Zone 10.
