Brasiliopuntia brasiliensis 4" pot


 

Crazy-looking prickly pear that grows into a tree!  It is easy to grow provided that it is protected from frost and not overwatered.  It is frequently covered with small yellow flowers and red fruits. 

(Cactaceae)  Subfamily: Opuntiodiae, Tribe: Opuntieae. Native to tropical South America, including Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Bolivia.

 

Light:Full sun.  

Water: Moderate water during the summer with a dry rest period in the winter.

Soil:  Sharply draining, succulent mix

Fertilizer: Occasional fertilizer at half strength

Hardiness: Not frost hardy.  USDA Zone 11, but does well in a container protected from frost.
