Starfish Iris. Spider Flower. This is one iris that your neighbors haven't seen! The star-shaped flowers are velvety brown with yellow markings and elaborately curled petal edges. During the day, they emit an intense vanilla fragrance. One of the treasures of South Africa's winter growing region, the spear-like leaves emerge in the fall enclosing a sturdy flower stalk. The corms produce offsets readily, so it forms a tidy clump fairly quickly. Dormant during the summer.
