Passiflora gritensis 4" pot

An absolute beauty from the high mountains in South America, Passiflora gritensis  has given us some of the most beautiful hybrids including P. 'Anastasia' and P. 'Crimson Tears'.  Large pink flowers have a deep rosy center and bundles of white tipped filaments.  The flowers hang on incredibly long stems and turn to face upward.  Would make a stunning pergola or gazebo plant, but beware that this is a very picky species.  It does not tolerate high temperatures in the summer, and prefers buoyant, cool, humid conditions similar to conditions in San Francisco, CA.

Light: Full sun, best in part shade.  In warmer climates, afternoon shade is recommended as this species does not like warm weather

Water: Moderate.

Soil: A wide range of soil, but it must be well-drained.

Fertilizer: A slow-release, bloom-booster type fertilizer is appreciated, but beware of using a fertilizer with too much nitrogen as it may push leaves at the expense of flowers.

Hardiness: Zone 9.
