Passiflora cocuyensis 4" pot

Size

Another very exciting introduction! Bright red flowers on long peduncles and densely hairy rows of corona filaments.

This species was named in 2024 and has only been available in the United States in a limited fashion through sales at a botanical garden.  I don't have a lot of experience with this species, but the vine is slender and reminds me of Passiflora gritensis. It might not tolerate hot summers (anything over 85 degrees F for extended periods, especially if it doesn't cool at night). It will require some experimentation to figure out its exact requirements, so I hope you'll let me know what you find out!

Subgenus: Passiflora, Supersection: Stipulata, Section: Kermesinae.

Light: Full sun, part shade.  There will be less flowers in part shade.

Water: Moderate.

Soil: A wide range of soil, but it must be well-drained.

Fertilizer: A slow-release, bloom-booster type fertilizer is appreciated, but beware of using a fertilizer with too much nitrogen as it may push leaves at the expense of flowers.

Hardiness: Zone 10.
