Bulbs

Brunsvigia gregaria bloom size bulb

Size

One of the most beautiful and striking Amaryllids, the flower heads get larger as the bulb ages and the show goes on as the seed head matures into an straw pinwheel that can be saved for decorating indoors.  This South African native is summer dormant and winter growing.  The flowers are deep pink and bloom late August-September. The leaves emerge after blooming and are pressed flat to the ground.

(Amaryllidaceae)   This bulb will ship when dormant from spring through late summer.  If you place an order with other plants while it's in active growth, it will ship separately.

Light: Part shade is best, so place near a shrub or fine-textured shade tree.  Also does well in a pot indoors with bright, indirect light.

Water: Moderate to heavy requirements provided that the soil is sharply draining.

Soil: Sharply draining, but high in organic matter.

Fertilizer: Relatively heavy feeder, so a slow-release fertilizer is appreciated.  I use a peat-based potting mix with a generous helping of extra pumice added.

Hardiness: USDA Zone 9
