Passiflora cirrhiflora 4" pot

Limit 2 per customer.

This is the holy grail of passionflowers. It is one of few passionflowers with yellow flowers. It is quite beautiful in flower with a sweet, pleasant fragrance. The leaves are palmate and very large and lush. Another interesting feature is that the flowers are produced on the tendrils rather than the stems.

It is a tropical species from French Guiana, so it's important to keep it warm all winter long.  I grew mine in a large, west-facing window right next to my kitchen sink for a couple of years before I got the heater upgraded in my greenhouse.  It bloomed beautifully under those conditions in early spring.

One key that has helped me grow this very desirable (and sometimes temperamental) species is a special potting mix.  This was taught to me by fellow passiflora fanatics which I'm so grateful for.  That's why it's so much fun to go to the Passiflora Society meetings!  Find out more at PassifloraSociety.org.

You'll notice the plants you receive are not in standard potting mix, and I'd encourage you to use the special mix when up-potting.  The mix I'm currently using is 75% potting mix (one third each of bark, peat and pumice) and 25% turface MVP.  It's the clay pellets that are used for coating baseball diamonds and also used extensively for growing bonsai.  I also add a generous amount of laterite powder.  This is sold for substrate in planted aquariums. Both can be purchased online. Make sure to water more often since this creates a very free-draining media.  It's also heavier than my usual mix, but if it grows this fabulous species better, I'm all for it!
