Subgenus Decaloba

Passiflora membranacea 4" pot

The flowers on this unusual passionflower resemble white waterlilies surrounded by dark red bracts.  Delicate, attractive leaves form an enormous vine when planted in the ground.  Will not tolerate summer temperatures that stay above 80 degrees for weeks at a time, but thrives in mild areas with a buoyant atmosphere similar to coastal California. Closely related to Passiflora hahnii and Passiflora guatemalensis.

Subgenus: Decaloba, Section: Hahniopathanthus.

Light: Full sun, part shade.  There will be less flowers in part shade, but shade is important in warmer areas.

Water: Moderate.

Soil: A wide range of soil, but it must be well-drained.

Fertilizer: A slow-release, bloom-booster type fertilizer is appreciated, but beware of using a fertilizer with too much nitrogen as it may push leaves at the expense of flowers.

Hardiness: Zone 9.
