Another extremely rare offering, members of the tree-like Subgenus Astrophea are almost never offered for sale and this is a particularly pretty one with bright red flowers. This is a liana, or woody vine that develops a tough, barky stem that produce clusters of flaming orange/red flowers. It has been easy for me to grow, but shy to flower.
Subgenus: Astrophea, Supersection: Pseudoastrophea, Section: Botryastrophea, Series: Botryastrophea
Light: Full sun.
Water: Moderate.
Soil: A wide range of soil, but it must be well-drained.
Fertilizer: A slow-release, bloom-booster type fertilizer is appreciated, but beware of using a fertilizer with too much nitrogen as it may push leaves at the expense of flowers.
Hardiness: Zone 11.
