Michaelmoelleria vietnamensis 4" pot

(Gesnariaceae) Discovered in 2020, this critically endangered African Violet relative is easily grown indoors on a windowsill.  The rectangular planter in the photo has been growing on my kitchen windowsill and blooming continuously for nine months!  The cheerful purple flowers are further enhanced by beautifully marked foliage.   It grows tubers underground which are easily divided to make more plants.

(Gesneriaceae)

Light: Shade. Grown indoors it thrives on a north or east windowsill.  West or southern exposures will be fine as long as it is pulled back out of direct sun.

Water: Moderate.  Evenly moist, but not soaking.

Soil: All-purpose potting soil.

Fertilizer: All-purpose.  A bloom booster fertilizer might help blooming, but mine blooms continuously and only ever gets my foliage houseplant liquid feed.

Hardiness: USDA Zone 12.  Must be protected from frost, but will mostly be grown as a houseplant.
