Passiflora intricata 4" pot

Very rare, newly named species endemic to the Dominican Republic.  The leaves are attractive duck-food shaped with prominent egg-mimic glands.  So far, it has been difficult to bloom in cultivation, but the flowers are very unusual.  It is hoped that the trigger for blooming can be identified, so we need a lot of different people from different areas growing it!  It's an easy vine to grow provided it doesn't get too cold.

Subgenus: Decaloba, Supersection: Ariculatae.  Intricata=tangled (in reference to the corona).  Photo courtesy of Jorge Ochoa.

Light: Full sun, part shade in very hot climates

Water: Moderate.

Soil: A wide range of soil, but it must be well-drained.

Fertilizer: A slow-release, bloom-booster type fertilizer is appreciated, but beware of using a fertilizer with too much nitrogen as it may push leaves at the expense of flowers.

Hardiness: Zone 10.
