Passiflora

Passiflora auriculata 4" pot

Delightful yellow and brown and green flowers with a strong fruity scent cover this vine. All year the plant sets buds that all open simultaneously over a period of a couple of days. The plant is very handsome with leathery dark green leaves and prominent yellow egg-mimic dots.  Food plant for Heliconius hecale zuleika, H. sara fulgidus, H. sara theudela, and Agraulis vanillae.

Subgenus: Decaloba, Supersection: Auriculata

Light: Full sun, part shade.  There will be less flowers in part shade.

Water: Moderate.

Soil: A wide range of soil, but it must be well-drained.

Fertilizer: A slow-release, bloom-booster type fertilizer is appreciated, but beware of using a fertilizer with too much nitrogen as it may push leaves at the expense of flowers.

Hardiness: Zone 11.
