Ceropegia succulenta 2.5" pot

Succulent Bushman's Pipe.  A vigorous, scrambling vine with stems the diameter of a thumb and large, glossy, succulent leaves marbled with white.  Very hefty for a ceropegia, it grows well in a hanging basket or scrambling along the ground.  The flowers are white with dark reddish brown trim, hairy, with the typical ceropegia bird-cage shape.  Like most ceropegias, the Succulent Bushman's Pipe is (mysteriously!) very hard to find in the plant trade.

Interestingly, the inside surfaces of Ceropegia flowers are covered with downward pointing hairs that trap any small flies that are attracted by the smelly flowers.  After the flies have covered themselves with pollen, the hairs wither and allow the trapped insects to go on their way!  Ceropegia succulenta is native to Kenya.

(Apocynaceae) The name Ceropegia means "wax fountain" referring to the appearance of the flower clusters.
