Passiflora boenderi 4" pot

New species with fabulous dark foliage that is purple underneath and velvety green with bright stripes and two rows of bright yellow dots on the upper surface.  The yellow dots on the leaves are believed to mimic butterfly eggs to convince interested butterflies to lay their eggs on a different passion vine that isn't already infested with butterfly larvae.  Very interesting mechanism! Small, greenish flowers.  Named for Ron Boender, the founder of the Passiflora Society International (PSI), after he discovered it while collecting in Costa Rica.  Tolerates a hot, tropical climate.  Does well in containers, and with such stunning foliage, makes a striking houseplant.  Food plant for Heleconius charitonia

Subgenus: Decaloba, Supersection: Disemma, Section: Disemma.

Light: Full sun, part shade.  There will be less flowers in part shade.

Water: Moderate.

Soil: A wide range of soil, but it must be well-drained.

Fertilizer: A slow-release, bloom-booster type fertilizer is appreciated, but beware of using a fertilizer with too much nitrogen as it may push leaves at the expense of flowers.

Hardiness: Zone 12.

In love!

Absolutely adore this beauty. I have numerous passiflora and this one by far being the most picky of them all, after finding the perfect happy spot she finally starting growing new leaves. I don't think they like full sun as stated in info, once I put her in part sun/shade, leaves are growing beautifully. Great plant! Thanks!
